Just like racing, the numbers say a lot. What numbers, you say? Dainese 5, Joe Rocket 5, AGV 2, MotoGP 4, Spidi 4. These numbers are the amount of models these companies offer in one piece suit designs in the USA currently. Meanwhile, world leader Alpinestars has a full 11 different models in one piece suits alone, with another 6 in two piece suits in their current line-up. Each of these suits has a minimum of 3 colors offered, so we're talking... well I suck at math, but I'd guess that makes somewhere near 30 different one piece suit options alone under the Alpinestars umbrella. That's a lot of suits and it's a display of Alpinestars' seriousness when it comes to the racing market. No other manufacturer even comes close to the variety.
Let's dig a little deeper and see what each suit has to offer in a nutshell (and we'll start at the bottom this time and work our way up)-
- Alpinestars Youth Suit - An amazing deal for the young aspiring racer. Something parents have been dying for - a non-custom suit for kid's (or, ver small adults). All the same protection you get in the adult suits, cut for the little guy's, or girls. A great deal at $599. Suitable for roadracing and supermoto.
- Alpinestars Stage Suit - This one is on the close-out list, but it's still available so we list it. This suit came and went faster than we thought. An excellent, fully perforated leather suit, with minimal graphic design, plain and simply and not very heavy. Standard GP Armor. Very popular now due to it's close-out pricing.
- The Alpinestars SG-1 Suit is the suit to replace the Stage. Perforated, lower end leather, standard armor. This suit is targeted for the budget track day rider looking for a barebones suit that will last in multiple crashes and can also be worn on the street. At $649.00 the price is hard to beat.
- Alpinestars Octane Suit - This year everything has to be called octane, we don't know why. The Octane is essentially the Stage, without the perforated panels. The Octane also uses a lower end softer leather than the Stage, hence its lower price.
- If you're a woman, you're probably curvy, have larger thighs, maybe larger calves and certainly a larger area than most men. The Alpinestars Julie Suit is the first commercial one piece women's suit from Alpinestars. We find this suit to fit a certain mold of woman- generally thin but muscular and average type of curve-build. For $799 it's definitely worth trying if you have an average body build - whatever that means- before having to with a customer suit.
- Three years ago, the Alpinestars S-Moto was one of the first commercial supermoto-specific suits on the market. This is an awsome one piece fully perforated leather suit. We've seen this suit go through 3 seasons of pro AMA supermoto races plus a host of local racing and still look good. It wears in well, is formed for the supermoto position, has room for extra knee protection and uses the astars external shoulder armor. $895 gets you a killer supermotard suit.
- The Vector Suit was introduced last year at $949 and really appeals only to a select few with fine design taste. If you look closely at this suit you'll see it hosts the colors of the Aprilia race teams. It works on a variety of other bikes too, Ducati being one of them. This is an under rated and under priced suit in the line, for what you get- full perforation, great design, speed hump, external shoulder armor.
- Alpinestars new Supermoto Suit, the S1 Supermoto Suit seems light years ahead of the original S-Moto, yet it only costs $100 more at $999.95. Amazing, when you think of the extra technology you get in the S1 over the Smoto. Integrated back protector, hybrid leather and textile mesh design, a pull over jersey. Killer looks.
- The Alpinestars RC1 Suit brings us back to the roadrace world for $999. Very cool look this suit has. Standard GP armor with a twist on the shoulders where the armor is internal but has special rubber lined vent cut outs for cooling. For the money, we'd rather have the Vector or the MX1
- Speaking of the MX-1, the $1199.00 Alpinestars MX1 Suit is really the icon in the line. One of the most popular in the line-up for its simple coloring in black. Not perforated, but well cut, speed hump, big star on the front. Also comes with the Race Tech back protector. Great suit for the racer, the track day guy and canyon carver.
- And finally, the Alpinestars Race Replica really is the ferrari in the line-up. If you need the best, go with the race rep at $1899. It won't let you down in performance and features and quite frankly there's no other suit like it.
