AMA: Aprilia USA and Atkins Global Management Announce 2007AMA Supermoto Championship Team

Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing and the Aprilia SXV Debut May 19

NEW YORK, May 15, 2007 – Aprilia USA and Atkins Global Management, along with a world-class roster of sponsor partners led by Rip-It Energy Drink®, have teamed up to challenge the ‘establishment’ in the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship.

Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team riders Ben Carlson, the 2006 AMA Supermoto Unlimited Class champion and team owner Darryl Atkins, the 2005 AMA Supermoto Unlimited Class runner-up will race the World Championship-winning Aprilia SXV 4.5 V-Twin in the Supermoto class for the first time.

Until 2007, AMA rules have only allowed multi-cylinder machines to compete in the unlimited class. For the 2007 season the V twin Aprilias will also compete in the 450 class. Wisconsin native Carlson and New Zealander Atkins will also return to contest the Unlimited Class with the Aprilia SXV 5.5, beginning with the season opener AMA Supermoto Championship races on May 29, at the St. Louis, MO Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.

“We’re really excited to expand our factory Supermoto race program for 2007,” says Rick Panettieri, brand manager, Aprilia USA. “The SXV 4.5 has proven to be very competitive in the FIM S2 Supermoto World Championship taking the title in 2006.

“All of us, from racers to sponsors, are focused on showcasing the Aprilia’s competitiveness on North American soil as well,” he says.

Aprilia’s race engineering heritage – the company has 32 on-road and off-road world championships on the books – has delivered a machine that’s designed to blend the benefits of increased horsepower with an exceptional chassis. "While the bike is heavier than the competition, the responsiveness of the SXV’s awesome chassis and the added horsepower give us a real unique advantage,” says Atkins. “We feel we maximized the 2006 season to get an in-depth understanding of this machine’s potential, and we’re excited about making the SXV as competitive on the North American circuit as it has been in the World Championship series.”

Ben Carlson cites the Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team dynamic as another factor in the team’s favor. Former rivals, Atkins and Carlson will compete for the podium as teammates for the first time. “Darryl has been a tough competitor in the past few years and I’m happy to join forces," says Carlson. “Add the opportunity to compete on a powerful new machine like the SXV, and it’s a real adrenaline rush. You can bet that we’re committed to making the most out of these strengths every time the tires touch the track.”

The Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team’s first outing on the SXV 4.5 and 5.5 was at the Stateline Supermoto Challenge - a season primer held in Primm, NV. Carlson took a seventh place finishing spot competing amongst some of the top riders in the 2007 AMA season, while Atkins was involved in a multi rider accident and did not finish the race.

The Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team is sponsored by Rip-It Energy Drink, Aprilia USA, Parts Unlimited, Bel-Ray Oils, Groove wines, Thor, Scott, Alpinestar, Asterisk, Ogio, ZLT, Dunlop, Beringer Brakes, K&N Filters, Pit Bull, Suzuka, Alpina Wheels, Renthal, Mechanix Wear, Regina Chains, Works Connection, Acberis and AF1 Racing.

Hardware: Supermoto Wheels Explained

Supermoto wheels are a big investment, when you factor that your 2-3 year old dirt bike may have a resale value in dirt form in the $4-5K range, if that. We get calls from guys all the time who say "well, I'm not really racing or nothing, so I'm just looking for the cheapest wheels you have to convert to Supermoto". Well, the real reply there is that there really isn't a cheap way to get into Supermoto unless you're going to go Sportsman about it and ride on knobbies or some type of dual-sport tire. Quality 17-inch supermoto wheels that will last are going to set you back between $800 and $2000 depending on how deep you're going to go at this and whether you want quality and performance or just a good price. Motostrano is a full scale supermoto specialist and we've been involved in Supermoto since it's re-birth in the United States in 2002. We offer complete supermoto wheels made from the finest materials and built by experience wheel builders

Riding the Moustache Samedi 27 2X Tandem Electric Bike

I love riding with my partner and riding by tandem is one of my favorite ways to get around on a Sunday. Touring by tandem is literally twice as fun as riding solo, when you are on a bike with the one you love and the one that loves you. But tandem bikes are rare and excellent electric tandem bikes are even rarer, so I wanted to give you a fresh impression of our ride yesterday on the 2018 MOUSTACHE Samedi 27 X2 tandem . Moustache is a French company, making some of the most innovative ebikes in the world. Their tandem is no exception. This bike comes in two build types, either a smooth tire touring type or a knobby tire off-road type, but the frames, motors and other specs are pretty much the same.  I've ridden tandems for the past few years on road and off road. Yesterday we did a Meet-Up ride with other fellow ebikers in the Sonoma area. Naturally we were the only tandem riders, with others riding solo on their Haibikes, KTM, Giant, Felt and Blix bikes. Bust Your Commute at Motostrano.com

If you live in the Bay Area, "getting around" is a constant thing to be reconciled with in your daily life. But, unlike other parts of the country where cars dominate completely and your only choice is to grin and bear it, you have countless alternate transportation solutions to help you differentiate from the crowd, go against the stream instead of with it, get un-stuck from traffic and benefit from health upsides as a result. Never before has there been such a wide variety of commuter-focused "personal transportation devices" available to you and the Bay Area is as usual a testing ground for all kinds of creative solutions to help you get from A to B.  Motostrano is the store at the center of all these alternative commuting solutions and we have been for almost 20 years now. Since 2002, a big part of Motostrano's focus has been about busting your commute. In the beginning it was motorcycles and in 2009 we migrated to bicycles and specifically  electric bicy
